Factory Stool by Sean Dix

Sean Dix is one of the most inspiring international interior architect and designers of today. With a reputation as the king of original, modern and minimal furniture design, his multi-faceted skillset allows him to create products across a number of different industries, including food & beverage design, luxury retail, interior architecture, furniture and product design, and creative direction.

The title of “international” designer is a well-earned testament to a life lived all over the globe. Born in Missouri, Dix’s childhood was spent living across Fiji, Micronesia and the Philippines, the family eventually returning to the USA. His early adult years were spent designing in Europe, eventually setting up his own design practice in Milan in 2000, expanding this to include an office in Hong Kong in 2008. The proximity of this location to efficient and quality manufacturing allowing the Dix brand to reach new heights.

Channelling his international experiences, Dix’s creative work is layered with meaning, but his designs inherently come back to the idea of balance and connection; how these things intertwine to build beautiful pieces that ultimately create a positive experience for the user.  “Much of what I do is about interaction and connections: the connection between the seat and legs of a chair. The interaction between that chair and the rest of the interior. It’s about seeking balance. A sense that all the pieces fit together naturally. Great interiors, like great chairs, naturally support the most important thing – the people that are using them.”

One such piece is the Factory Stool. As its name suggests, this collection is inspired by the stools used by factory workers in the 1930’s. An ode to minimal, timeless design, this stool is simple yet built for hard use. Produced in a range of heights, we currently have the low stool available in black. With a sturdy steel frame and legs boasting a modern design twist, Dix’s attention to detail can be seen in the quality stitching of the black leather seat pad.
