Magis Yuyu Stool by Stefano Giovannoni

Magis Yuyu Stool by Stefano Giovannoni

Magis: Another gem in the Italian furniture design landscape.

With deep roots in Northern Italy where Magis was founded in 1976, Veneto has remained the home of the business, continuing the tradition of exceptional industrial production and traditional craftmanship that is synonymous with the region. With production, design and almost all of their suppliers also being located in Italy, this is a proud Italian operation based on respect, honesty and loyalty.

Self-proclaimed seekers of innovation and fresh ideas, Magis have been creating products for the home, offices and public spaces since 1976. Their products expertly fuse functionality with aesthetics, their ideas born from a core value: pushing the boundaries of design. Subsequently their products are wide-ranging, eclectic and expressive, because “uncompromising design requires freedom.” It is this freedom that allows Magis to constantly search for new ideas, new design languages and innovative production methods.

Another core value revolves around their quest to reduce their environmental footprint. All Magis products are manufactured from high quality, durable materials and are made to last, bucking the trend of the throwaway market that is so prevalent these days. They have also spearheaded research into alternatives to regular plastic, these studies leading them to experiment with materials such as jute, hemp, and recycled, recyclable and even biodegradable plastics. The results of which have come to fruition with Magis’ newest collection, “Costume”. Designed by Stefan Diez, this modular setup is made from 100% recycled and recyclable polyethylene, and embedded pocket springs minimize the use of synthetic foam, which is an ecologically problematic material.

Their high standard of design and production is underpinned by strong family values that have been in place since Magis’ inception by Eugenio Perazza in 1976. A family-owned business, they believe in growing together, building long-lasting, fruitful relationships with employees, customers and partners. And like many successful design studios, these relationships extend to partnerships with other designers in order to bring to life the Magis vision. Designers such as Jasper Morrison, Konstantin Grcic, Philippe Starck, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec and Jerszy Seymour are family to the Magis brand.

Some of these collaborations have led to award-winning designs such as “Bottle” in 1994, a stackable bottle rack that now sits in prestigious museums around the world, including MoMa in New York, and also the “Bomba” (1997). A critical and commercial success, this height-adjustable, swivel bar stool was designed by Stefano Giovannoni, and has garnered much acclaim, becoming the most copied bar stool in history.

Another successful design collaboration between Giovannoni and Magis is the “Yuyu” stool. This piece has all the hallmarks of the ultimate stool: lightweight, stackable, sleek and durable.

Made from air-moulded polypropylene, the Yuyu features a contoured seat and a low back with an integrated open handle, and slender, tapered legs. The well-thought-out design allows the stool to be moved around easily and stacked neatly into groups of 8, making for efficient storage, and good use of space. Impeccable Italian manufacturing coupled with the use of high-quality materials, makes the Yuyu strong, easy to clean and resistant to inclement weather. Designed for practical yet diverse use the Yuyu would be at home in the office, home, restaurant or café, both indoor and outdoor.

We have the Yuyu available in a neutral beige colourway, a subtle hue that will fit in anywhere.

Modern design, comfortable and incredibly practical – the Yuyu is another impeccable Magis product not to be missed.
