Segis Storm by Bartoli Design
Segis, Latin for “camel saddle”, is an Italian furniture design company founded in 1983 by Franco Dominici. Beginning his career in luxury fashion, Dominici proceeded to channel his unique flare into furniture design, creating an original and innovative business that he still runs today.
The Segis design philosophy revolves around the idea that living life requires the constant moving between spaces. Be it residential, public or workspaces, interacting with objects within these spaces creates a mood unique to each person. Working from an idea that each object has its own reason to exist, Segis’ designs reflect how the relationship between form, function and aesthetic can impact the individual’s disposition.
Segis’ design and manufacturing processes place a huge emphasis on environmentally friendly practices that have a low impact on our earth. “Ecology is something we have to take care of in all areas: materials, processes, packaging, energy, transportation, places we buy from…” says Dominici.
Segis’ collections are also hallmarked by collaborations with leading international architects and industrial designers. Such unions inspire different technical, productive and creative skills that result in a rich and original energy that flows from the design process through to manufacturing.
One such partnership is with Bartoli Design, an Italian design team from Milan, made up of Carlo, Paolo and Anna Bartoli. The studio has been around since 1960 and their ethos revolves around the poetics of essentiality and balance, which flows through their design concepts, communication strategies as well as production. They believe that each product must have a reason to exist.
Born from this successful partnership is the acclaimed Storm chair. This chair is popular for its sleek lines and classic form that make it adaptable to almost any space. Whilst the design is simple, it is built for comfort and produced from materials of the utmost quality to ensure this. The seat and back shell are manufactured in a textured recyclable polypropylene, whilst the frame is high-resistance tubular steel, made to last. The Storm chair is conveniently stackable, and the unique cross-section between the chair leg and the seat base not only provides additional support but contributes to the ease of stacking. In true Segis fashion this chair is both functional and aesthetically versatile, we have these chairs available in black.
