Miss Molly Lounge Chair by Schamburg + Alvisse
Pioneers of the sustainable furniture movement, Marc Schamburg and Michael Alvisse are an award-winning design team making waves in the Australian furniture industry. From different design backgrounds they were brought together through shared values and a passion for sustainability, launching their Sydney design studio, Schamburg + Alvisse, in 1997.
With the intention of creating eco-certified furniture this foundation of sustainability saw the pair push the boundaries of green design long before the rest of the industry took notice of green standards. “It’s just become part of our design process now,” they comment, “So it’s almost second nature: if a product meets a need but isn’t sustainable, then does it really meet the need?”
Their leadership in this field has seen them receive multiple awards and spearhead conversations with like-minded architects and designers, tackling such issues as improving indoor air quality and conserving fast dwindling natural resources.
With a rigorous and dedicated design process, Schamburg + Alvisse have built a reputation for producing functional, sustainable and beautifully designed furniture for corporate, commercial and bespoke projects. Some of their pieces sit in the permanent collection of Sydney's Powerhouse Museum, and have been exhibited in Milan's Triennale Museum, San Francisco's Museum of Modern Art, and the Melbourne Museum.
One such piece is the Miss Molly Lounge Chair, which was procured by the Sydney Powerhouse Museum. This award-winning piece reflects the Schamburg + Alvisse design philosophy of simple yet innovative products that have durability and longevity and is described by the designers as being 'thoroughly modern without ever being trendy.'
Made from plywood sourced from certified eco-forests, Miss Molly is designed for comfort. A uniquely wide back flows down to a generous, and ergonomically designed seat. The rounded edges and clean form of the chair make for a timeless and elegant look that is ‘reassuringly familiar'. Schamburg + Alvisse’s meticulous attention to materials and finishes is also prevalent, the seat being upholstered in high quality fabric and the sled base manufactured in stainless steel. This sled base also makes this model easily stackable, adding to the versatility of the piece.
The sturdiness of these chairs and their minimal aesthetic make Miss Molly perfect for almost any environment or interior: from break-out areas, waiting rooms, to the office or even the loungeroom.
We have this particular style of Miss Molly available in a range of colours, including this subtle grey and stunning blue. We also have some one-off patterned fabrics also available so get in touch to find out more about these.
A versatile, stackable, designer chair that is comfortable, durable and environmentally made from high quality materials? You can’t beat that.
