Wilkhahn - Sito Cantiliver Chair by Wiege, Fritz Frenkler, Justus Kolberg
Wilkhahn: the epitome of German quality and design.
This furniture design company dates back to 1907, first opening as a chair-making factory by Friedrich Hahne and Christian Wilkening in Hanover. Wilkhahn, a hybrid of both surnames, originally produced high-quality, solid beech chairs with wood sourced from nearby forests. Over a century the business has evolved, maintaining its close relationship to nature, but experimenting with innovative techniques and drawing inspiration from multiple designers and cultural movements, including the Bauhaus era. Today Wilkhahn remains an industry leader in premium office and dynamic conference furniture, their pieces heralded for quality, value and durability.
The Wilkhahn philosophy is one of progression: seeing things in perspective, being attentive and above all, keeping an enquiring mind. The belief that people design based on their environment and human relations is key to their creative process. A process that has successfully produced aesthetically superior pieces that have function and the user experience at their core. Such a mentality has also allowed Wilkhahn to move fluidly with the ever-changing industry and remain at the forefront of modern furniture design.
The Wilkhahn ethos also centres around the vital importance of fair and responsible partnerships throughout the design process. Relationships with staff, nature and technology are nurtured in order to elicit the best possible design results, and this is reflected not only in their pieces but in their award-winning sustainability practices.
Wilkhahn’s Sito Cantilever chair hits the mark as a premium office chair of style. In true Wilkhahn fashion the design was borne out of analysis of the seated figure in motion and is typical of the cantilever style - encompassing flexibility, spaciousness and comfortability.
The design is cleverly based on bridge construction: the component that supports the seated individual is comprised of a tubular steel structure which is supported by slender, flat steel braces. The braces absorb force, so the cross section of the tubular structure is smaller and the chair more flexible. These chairs are designed to last.
We currently have the Sito Cantilever available in black. This sleek model has a medium height durable black plastic backrest contoured for maximum comfort, the arm rests are made of round steel tubing and topped with the same black plastic, and the seat is upholstered in grey check.
Not only is the Sito Cantilever a true example of superior Germany quality and design, it is a sophisticated, elegant piece with an aesthetic that allows diversity in placement. Perfect as a stand-alone piece in a home or singular office, and equally as impressive when combined with other furniture in a larger office environment.
